The host Primm serves up the last question. Jamal is on a roll. He is on the verge of making television history. $20 million rupees are at stake. Primm asks the question about the Three Musketeers.
Meanwhile, Lathika is racing toward the Millionaire set. She is happy to finally reach Jamal. Time is ticking.
Jamal must somehow know the answer. He reflects back to his childhood school days. An old memory of his teacher hitting him on the head with a book is enough to coerce the answer. In another scene, a young Jamal invites Latika inside a wooden structure while the rain pours down cats and dogs, figuratively speaking.
Jamal is almost out of solutions. He obviously does not know the answer. Primm warns him to take the money to avoid losing everything.
Lathika is running. She watches a television of Jamal on the higly anticipated Millionaire finale. This is it! The million dollar payday is on the line, Jamal is stumped.
Jamal has already used the audience and the 50/50 line to answer two previous questions. He declines to give up. Jamel attempts to call ingSalim's (brother) cell phone because this is the only number he knows. The phone keeps ringing. Lathika realizes the cell phone is ringing. She runs in what is obviously the most climatic moment of the movie.
Will Lathika reach in time? Jamal is out of lifelines. A second before Primm cuts the line, Lathika speaks on the phone. Jamal is shocked to hear his dream girl's voice. He asks her whether she is safe. She tells him she is fine.
The audience and the production team are in awe. Time is ticking away. Primm needs an answer. Jamal nervously reads the question.
Javed hears Lathika's voice on the television. Salim is preparing for a blood bath. He files out money in the bath tub.
Lathika declines to answer the question. She tells Jamal she never known the third Musketeer. Lathika wishes Jamal luck. Jamal is on his own.
Jamal takes a risk to choose the third Musketeer. Primm builds up the tension. Meanwhile, Salim is engaged in a shootout. He shoots Javed dead. In the gun fight, Salim is shot dead. He dies happily, knowing that his decision to reunite Lathik with Jamal is his last good deed to wash away the bad.
Primm shouts you are right! Jamel is a Slumdog Millionaire. The confetti drops on Jamal to celebrate a historical moment in television history.
Outside, Jamal is cooling down. He appears unhappy, even though he is now a millionaire. The love of his life is nowhere to be found.
On his way to the subway, Jamal pauses. He surprisingly sees Lathika standing on the opposite side of the tracks. This is a real magic moment. The two were kept apart the entire movie. Jamal crosses the tracks.
Lathika is waiting her Prince. She has wanted this moment her entire life. Jamal is about to reunite with his dream girl. The two have a moment, sharing some poetic lines to express their feelings for one another.
The movie ends with Lathika requesting Jamal to kiss her. Jamal gains the courage to kiss his first love. According to the title kind, it is written in the stars.
The movie ends.
