Daryl shared with the group that Randall turned into a zombie with no bites. He believed Shane killed Randall, breaking the young kid's neck as he always wanted to do.
Rick revealed to the group that Jenner (CDC) told him that everyone is infected. He doesn't know how or what caused the infection. However, the infection that causes the dead to transform into zombies is in every member of the group. Rick confirmed the infection soon after Shane turned into a zombie.
We never learn the absolute truth of the zombie virus. Did the group contract the virus from the water, food, or is it airborne? Rick reveals to the group that they're all infected. Whenever a person dies, and their brain is intact, they will turn into a zombie.
